GREENSBORO — The city will begin installing surveillance cameras at several city intersections beginning Monday to increase public safety and deter criminal activity, according to a city press release.

The cameras will be in use at the intersections of West Lee and Aycock streets, Holden and High Point roads, South Elm and McGee streets, and North Elm and Market streets.

Once their effectiveness has been evaluated, the city will decide whether to install cameras elsewhere, according to assistant police chief Anita Holder.

The cameras and installation cost $28,000. They were funded by the police department’s information technology section.
