WASHINGTON (AP) — Police say last night’s shootout at the Pentagon appears to be a case of “a single individual who had issues.” John Patrick Bedell (beh’-DEHL’) was fatally shot in the exchange with Pentagon police that left two officers wounded. Bedell apparently left behind Internet postings resentful of the government and airing suspicions about the 9/11 attacks.

PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities in Arizona say six people have been killed in a passenger bus crash south of Phoenix. Rescuers have set up a triage area in the middle of the highway and were breaking out windows of the bus to get to victims. The westbound lanes of Interstate 10 about 25 miles south of Phoenix are closed.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are rising in early trading on Wall Street after the government’s employment report showed fewer jobs were cut in February than expected. The Labor Department says employers cut 36,000 jobs last month, better than the 50,000 cuts forecast by economists, and the unemployment rate held steady at 9.7 percent.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — More passengers are sick with a stomach bug on a cruise ship that was hit by virus on its previous trip from South Carolina. A South Carolina newspaper, The Post and Courier of Charleston, says 55 of the nearly 1,900 passengers on board the Celebrity Mercury have fallen ill. The ship sailed from Charleston on Feb. 27.

CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN, Wash. (AP) — A search is under way for two skiers missing in Washington state. Searchers are following tracks in the snow into an out-of-bounds area at the Crystal Mountain resort on the east side of Mount Rainier National Park.
